Chess squares

Yet another easy cookie.. and yes, of course, it goes fantastic with a cup of coffee.

1 stick butter

1 ¼ cup all purpose flour

1/3 cup sugar

½ tsp baking powder

1 tsp vanilla sugar

1 tbs cocoa




Mix butter and sugar. Mix flour and baking powder then mix it with the butter sugar mix.

Divide the dough into two portions. Mix one with the vanilla sugar, and the other with the cocoa. Divide both into four equal parts. Roll them out into four rolls. Then put a vanilla and a cocoa roll together and the other two rolls so that they create a chess pattern if you look from the side. Gently roll the four rolls together and then push down so that you get a nice square bar. Cover the dough in cling rap and let it rest for 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Cut the dough bar into 35-40 equal size pieces. Place them on waxed paper on a cookie sheet. Bake in 345 degrees for 7- 10 minutes.
